West Holds on To Cup

In the closest match since 2020, Team West retained the Commissioner’s Cup by a 16.5 to 13.5 score.  Every member of both teams scored a point. Eric Birkle, Brian Lardin and Eric Kiekbusch led Team West with 4-1-0 records. Team East was led by Jeff Klipa, Helen Puffenberger and Nancy Hiestand at 2-2-1.  12 of 30 matches made it to the 18th hole. Many matches saw a team or player get up early and hold on throughout. A few exceptions were: Chuck Withey and Chris Stalo flipped their day 1 Alternate Shot match by winning the 17th and 18th holes. Puffenberger and Nancy Hiestand came back in day 2 Best Ball to even the match on 16 and push the last two holes for a split point. Birkle and Chris Dunmore got up 3 different times on Withey – Stalo in their day 2 Best Ball only to fall back and need a 18th hole par to take the match. In a marque match of the final day, Greg Kline made a furious late comeback from 3 down to halve his match with Jeff Klipa and get the Cup clinching point. And in the final match of the event, the crowd got all they wanted as Rich Dunmore won the 18th hole to catch brother Chris and split the match. We’re left wondering still who Mama Dunmore’s favorite is.
