Lance Evert birdied the 8th hole of the 9 hole preliminary round to get into the top four shootout group. He then shot straight par thru the shootout to tie Rick Floyd and Scott Wilsey at the end of regulation. He continued steady at par for two more extra holes to outlast Wilsey and Floyd and take the greatest trophy in golf. Helen Puffenberger bogeyed the final shootout hole to take 4th. Barb Hoelzle birdied the 8th hole also in the prelim to make the shootout in her first event of the season. On course prizes went to Wilsey and Barb Hoelzle.
Notables: Puffenberger tied Wilsey for fewest putts in the prelim and had two eagles to take medalist for the prelim round. Floyd, Barb Hoelzle and Chuck Withey led the Prelim for 4 greens hit. Wilsey moved to #1 in all-time Red Oaks winnings. Evert gets his 1st Tour victory in his 15th start.
