Helen Puffenberger held off Eric Kiekbusch in a playoff to take the Irish Open. Both players birdied the 18th hole to finish regulation in 1st at 1 over par 72. In the playoff they traded bogeys on the 1st and 2nd holes and Puff got par on the 4th hole to take the trophy. Chuck Withey, Ryan Doak, and Michael Thacker finished 3rd at 2 over par 73.Â
On course prizes went to Jeff Klipa, Ron Hiestand, Alan Korn, Eric Birkle and Puffenberger. Long Drive went to Ron Hiestand. Fewest putts of 28 were made by Kiekbusch and Withey. Chip-in prizes went to Kiekbusch, Mike Geisser and Jeff Graunke. Withey won the drawing from 5 players who picked Scheffler to lead the PGA 3rd round. And lastly (whew!), the Four Leaf Clover winners for birdieing the 5th hole were Doak, Thacker, Graunke, Willi Hesse, Lance Evert and Anthony Dean. Puffenberger and Nancy Hiestand hit 10 fairways. Geisser carded 6 birides. Kiekbusch took his first playoff loss in his 100th Tour start against 4 previous wins.
Puffenberger evened her playoff record at 2 and 2 and got her 12th Tour win in her 283rd start.
