Birkle Battles for Blue

Brian Lardin posted a number, but Eric Birkle finished birdie – eagle to grab the lead at the Go Blue. Bill Gordon had a chance to tie but the dreaded bladed wedge ended his chances. Birkle finished at 68 4 under par to Lardin’s 3 under par 69. Gordon finished at 2 under par 70 and Ryan Doak got 4th at 1 under par 71.

On course prizes went to Kelly Scheff with a shot inside 3 feet at #2 and to Commisioner Floyd. Notables: Birkle lives in the shadow of the UofM Campus and Gordon and Lardin both attended there (not for golf…or studying). Don Ward led with 28 putts, Jeff Klipa hit 12 fairways to 11 for Scheff and 10 for Helen Puffenberger. Tyler Floyd hit 12 greens to 10 by Birkle. Willi Hesse and Dave Oliver had 6 birdies, Lardin and Tim Markel had 5 birdies and 1 eagle, and Birkle and Gordon had 6 birdies and and eagle.  Chip-ins were made by Birkle, Rick Floyd, Brian Pieszchala and Chris Dunmore. Gordon got the 10th 3rd Place finish of his Tour career.  Lardin moves to #1 in all-time Go Blue winnings, 75 cents ahead of Birkle. Birkle gets his Tour leading 4th win of the season and 10th of his career in 226 starts.
